Orthodontics
Orthodontics (commonly referred to as teeth straightening) is an area of dentistry that involves with the movement of teeth into a more favourable position, whether that be for cosmetic or functional reasons. It is a treatment that we are proud to provide at the practice and we offer both fixed braces and removable aligners (using the Invisalign system).
Fixed Orthodontics
When you think of braces, you are usually thinking of traditional orthodontics where brackets are glued on to your teeth and connected by a wire. The wire applies gentle pressure to the teeth, via the brackets, and gradually moves the teeth in to the desired position. Periodically the wire requires tightening to ensure the correct pressures continue to be applied.
We offer treatment with:
- Metal brackets (which is the most cost-effective option, usually used for children)
- Clear / ceramic brackets, which are less noticeable than the metal brackets
- Lingual brackets (on the tongue side of your teeth) or aligners, for a much less visible approach.
We are proud to have this treatment provided by Amelia Jerreat who is a consultant orthodontist at both the Royal Devon & Exeter and the North Devon District Hospital. Amelia joined the practice in 2021 and has brought with her a wealth of knowledge and experience. She is happy to provide a consultation regarding concerns about your tooth positions or bite.
